Burn Risks Cause Zippo Candle Lighter Recall
About 17,500 Zippo candle lighters have been recalled because they may produce flames that are too large, posing a risk of burn injuries to users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
Today’s recall involves Zippo Slatkin & Co. Candle Lighters with date codes G09 or H09. When the lighters are set to the maximum flame setting, they may produce an excessive flame. However, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries related to the defective candle lighters.
The recalled lighters are finished in high-polish chrome or white with a chrome nozzle and use refillable butane fuel. They are 6.5 inches long and 1 inch wide. The words “Slatkin & Co.” and “Zippo” are printed on the packaging. “Zippo” also is embossed on the product, the CPSC said.
The items were sold at Bath & Body Works and White Barn Candle stores nationwide and online in November 2009 for about $10. They were manufactured in China.
Consumers who have the recalled Zippo candle lighters in their possession should immediately stop using them and contact Zippo for information on returning the black adjuster knob and receiving a free replacement Zippo candle lighter, officials said.
