Evenflo Children’s Activity Centers Recalled Due to Loose Parts, Choking Hazard
More than 79,000 Evenflo ExerSaucer 1-2-3 Tea for Me Activity Learning Centers sold in the United States and Canada have been recalled because a part on the toys may break off, posing a choking hazard to young children.
Evenflo Co. Inc. of Miamisburg, Ohio and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall of about 66,000 of the children’s toys sold in the United States and another 13,660 sold in Canada.
The recall was announced because a plastic candle flame attached to the top of the cake toy on the activity centers may detach and present a choking hazard to young children.
Reports of Parts Detaching
The company said it has received 11 reports of the toy flames detaching (Five in the U.S. and six in Canada). However, no injuries have been reported, officials said.
Only two models of Evenflo ExerSaucer 1-2-3 Tea for Me brand activity learning centers are involved in the recall. The toys have a tea-party theme with a two–tier cake that is light blue, dark pink and yellow. Models included in the recall are 6161834 and 6161920. The model numbers are printed on the packaging and on a label located on the underside of the base of the product.
Sold at Toys ‘R’ Us, Other Retailers
The toys are recommended for use by children from 4 months to walking and were sold at Toys “R” Us and other juvenile product stores nationwide from December 2007 through March 2009 for about $70. The recalled activity centers were made in China, the CPSC said.
Parents or other caregivers should immediately remove the cake toy from the recalled products and contact Evenflo to receive a free replacement toy. The ExerSaucer may continue to be used without the cake toy until the replacement part arrives, officials said.
