Salomon Ski Bindings Recalled Following Broken Leg, Knee Injury
Salomon USA of Ogden, Utah is recalling about 10,000 of its Alpine Ski Bindings after reports of the components failing to hold the ski boot to the binding, resulting in consumer reports of a broken leg and a knee injury, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
So far, the company has received reports of one skier suffering a broken leg and another sustaining a knee injury when the ski boot suddenly and unexpectedly released from the binding on the ski, causing the person to go out of control and fall, according to the CPSC recall notice.
Various Ski Binding Models Included in Recall
The following models of Saloman alpine ski bindings are involved in today’s voluntary recall: LZ 7, LZ 8, LZ 9, LZ 7 SR, LZ 8 SR, LZ 8 SC, and J LZ 9 and the Atomic ski bindings with model Evox 2.8, Evox 2.8+, Evox 2.8++, and FFG 8.
The words “Salomon” or “Atomic” and the model number can be found displayed on the ski bindings. A production date code ending in “8” can be found on the center plate where the toe of a ski boot contacts the toe component of the bindings, the CPSC said.
The recalled ski bindings were sold at authorized Salomon USA and Atomic USA ski dealers nationwide from September 2008 through October 2009 for between $90 and $160. They were manufactured in Romania.
Return Recalled Bindings For Inspection and Refund
Consumers should stop using these ski bindings immediately and return the Salomon-brand ski bindings to any authorized Salomon ski dealer, or return the Atomic-brand ski bindings to any authorized Atomic ski dealer, for a free inspection and replacement of the toe component, the CPSC said.
