Perfect Flame Gas Grills Recalled Due to Defects, Burns

About 664,000 Perfect Flame SLG Series Gas Grills sold in the United States and Canada are being recalled because the burners on the grills may be defective and pose a risk of burns to users.

There have been 40 reports of the grills burning out of control and 23 reports of the lids catching on fire, resulting in one report of an eye injury requiring surgery and 21 incidents of burn injuries to the hand, face, and arm, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The burners on the grills may deteriorate, resulting in irregular flames that can burn out of control, according to the CPSC and importer L G Sourcing, Inc., of North Wilkesboro, N.C.

Numerous Models Included in Recall

Ten models of SLG series “Perfect Flame” brand outdoor propane or natural gas grills are involved in the recall. For a complete list of the recalled models, see the CPSC’s recall notice.

There were about 663,000 of the recalled grills sold in the United States and about 1,700 distributed in Canada, officials said. The grills were available in stainless steel and painted black or gray metal. The model number can be found in the compartment under the cooking chamber.

The recalled grills were manufactured in China and sold exclusively at Lowe’s retail outlets nationwide from September 2005 through May 2009 for between $200 and $550 (U.S.) and in Canada from December 2007 through May 2009 for between $200 and $250 (CAN), the CPSC said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Perfect Flame SLG series grills and contact L G Sourcing to receive free replacement burners and, depending on the model of the grill owned, a free replacement lid, officials said.
