Carbon Monoxide Risks Prompt Recall of Electrolux ICON and Kenmore PRO Gas Ranges

About 900 Electrolux ICON and Kenmore Pro gas ranges are being recalled because the appliances may incompletely burn, releasing carbon monoxide and posing a risk of poisoning users.

Electrolux Home Products Inc., of Augusta, Ga. and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall today. An incorrect part inside the ranges allows more fuel to pass to the oven than can be burned, which can lead to deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.

The company has received four reports of incidents involving carbon monoxide being released from defective ranges. There have been no reports of consumer injuries, officials said.

The following products are involved in today’s recall:

• Electrolux ICON Gas Range E30GF74HPS

• Kenmore PRO 30” Gas Range 790.76913800 and 790.76913801

The recalled appliances have serial numbers ranging from NF83000000 to NF93633000, according to the CPSC recall notice.

For Electrolux ICON, the model and serial numbers are located on the back of the range. For the Kenmore PRO, the model and serial numbers are located near the base of the range just below the bottom right portion of the oven door and also on the back of the range. Not all serial numbers within these ranges are included in the recall, officials said.

The recalled ranges were manufactured in Canada and sold at appliance retailers nationwide from August 2008 through October 2009 for between $2,500 and $3,500.

Consumers should immediately stop using the range’s oven and contact Electrolux for the Electrolux ICON or Sears for the Kenmore PRO to schedule a free repair. In the meantime, consumers can continue to use the cooktop (top burners) and the broiler as well as any clock and/or timer functions on the recalled ranges, as those parts do not pose risks of carbon monoxide poisoning.
