Paula Deen Cast Iron Cookware Recalled Due to Burn and Laceration Hazards

About 51,000 Paula Deen-brand cast iron pans and griddles sold by QVC are being recalled because the cookware may crack or shatter when heated, causing burns and other injuries to consumers.

There have been 79 reports of the cookware breaking during use, including one report of a consumer suffering a burn injury to the arm, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The cookware was made in China, distributed by Meyer Trading Co, Ltd. of West Chester, Pa., and sold on QVC’s TV channel, website, and in QVC employee stores from October 2007 to July 2009 for between $35 and $55, the CPSC said.

Specific QVD Products Numbers Recalled

Only Paula Deen 11-inch cast iron grill pans and griddles with QVC item numbers K14984, K11970 and K135024 are included in today’s recall. Other Paul Deen cookware is not being recalled. The recalled cookware is black and has the Paul Deen logo and the size of the pan engraved on the bottom.

The CPSC is advising that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cookware. QVC has already mailed known purchasers of the recalled products instructions for obtaining a full refund. Consumers who purchased the cookware at a QVC store should return it to any QVC store for a full refund, the CPSC said.
