Halloween Flashlights Sold at Target Recalled Due to Burn Hazard
About 610,000 Halloween flashlights sold only at Target stores nationwide are being recalled because they may overheat, melt, and burn the hands of users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
There have already been eight reports of the holiday-themed flashlights overheating and melting, including one report of a consumer suffering burns to the hand, officials said.
Two types of flashlights are included in the recall: Mini flashlights and standard-sized flashlights sold with stencils that allow the lights to cast Halloween themed shadows, according to the CPSC recall notice.
The mini flashlights have a key ring extending from the bottom and were sold in a pack of three colors, including orange, green and black. The orange and purple packaging has “Mini Flashlights (3 Pack)” printed on the front and “DGI”, “Made in China” and “DPCI# 234-02-1813” printed on the back, the CPSC said.
The standard sized flashlights being recalled have a black handle and an orange top. The flashlights were sold with six stencils in various colors and images: a pumpkin, ghost, spider, cat, witch and skull & cross-bones. “Flashlight with Stencil” is printed on the front and “Tien Hsing,” “Made in China” and ”234 02 1838” is printed on the back of the packaging, according to the CPSC.
Both types of recalled flashlights were sold only at Target stores nationwide from August 2009 through September 2009. The mini flashlights cost $1 and the flashlights with stencils cost $2.50. Both products were made in China.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled flashlights and return them to any Target store for a full refund.
