Bad Boy Off-Road Vehicles Recalled After Reports of Sudden Acceleration, Rider Injuries
About 3,900 Classic Buggies made by Bad Boy Enterprises are being recalled because the off-road vehicles may speed off without warning, causing accidents and serious injuries to riders.
The Natchez, Miss.-based manufacturer of the four-wheelers and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall today.
There have been 32 reports of unexpected acceleration involving the popular recreational and utility vehicles, including reports of broken bones, rotator cuff injuries, and sore muscles, the CPSC said.
The recalled vehicles resemble golf carts on steroids and are similar in design and functioning to the Yamaha Rhino, Polaris Ranger, and other brands of off-road vehicles that have been linked to scores of user deaths and injuries in recent years.
Thousands of Yamaha, Polaris, and other types of four-wheelers have been ordered recalled due to deaths and injuries caused by roll-over accidents, faulty manufacturing, and other safety concerns.
Certain Bad Boy Vehicle Models Recalled
Only Bad Boy Buggy Standard models of off-road utility vehicles are involved in today’s recall. The Bad Boy Buggy Standard model has a bench seat that allows a driver and passenger to sit side-by-side while the vehicle is operated, the CPSC said. The vehicles have no doors or windows and were sold in Realtree camouflage pattern, Hardwoods camouflage pattern, hunter green, red, and black colors.
The recalled models have serial numbers between 85004828 and 95010404. The serial number is located on a sticker in a cubby on the driver’s side, the CPSC’s recall notice states.
The vehicles were sold at Bad Boy authorized dealers nationwide from June 2007 through July 2009 for about $10,000. They were built in the United States. They are commonly used by hunters, outdoorsmen, and as utility equipment on farms and ranches.
Consumers should immediately stop using the buggies and contact their Bad Boy Buggy dealer for a free repair, the CPSC said.
