Risk of Falls Prompts Recall of Grand Trunk Parachute Hammocks

Grand Trunk is recalling about 2,500 of the company’s single and double “Parachute” hammocks because supporting hooks on the products can fail, causing the occupants to fall and be injured, the Consumer Product Safety Commission just announced.

So far, the company has received nine reports of the support hooks failing, resulting in injuries ranging from bumps and bruises to cuts and scrapes, according to the CPSC recall notice. Grand Trunk is also known as Travel Hammock Inc. of Skokie, Ill.

The recalled hammocks were sold in single and double versions and packaged in a nylon sack with the Grand Trunk logo printed on the sack.

Select Colors and Models Recalled

The following model numbers and colors of hammocks are included in the recall:

• SH-01 (Single Olive/Khaki)

• SH-02 (Single Blue/Navy Blue)

• SH-06 (Single Royal/Khaki)

• DH-01 (Double Olive/Khaki)

• DH-02 (Double Lt. Blue/Yellow)

• DH-03(Double Navy/Silver)

• DH-04 (Double Navy/Red)

The model number can be located on the product’s hang tag, the CPSC said.

The recalled hammocks were sold at specialty outdoor retailers nationwide from July 2008 through June 2009 for between $50 and $60. The products were made in Indonesia.

Consumers should stop using the recalled hammocks immediately and contact the company for a free repair kit, the CPSC said.
