Replacement Torch Fuel Containers Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

About 720,000 flame guards on Clear-Vu torch fuel containers are being recalled today because the products may malfunction, melt, and pose a fire hazard to users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The flame guards on the replacement fuel containers made by Lamplight Farms Inc. of Menomonee Falls, Wis. may not function properly while the torch is in use, officials said. Each year, defective consumer products cause thousands of injuries and deaths. In many cases, these defects are the result of negligent companies that design, produce, and distribute defectively dangerous products.

Reports of User Injuries Received

Lamplight Farms has received 35 reports of the fuel containers melting while the torch was lit and one report of a minor burn injury caused by the defective products, according to the CPSC.

Today’s recall notice involves Clear-Vu torch fuel containers sold as replacement parts. Clear-Vu torch fuel containers that were sold with the torches are not included in this recall.

The letters “RC” are stamped on the underside of the recalled flame guards. The replacement fuel containers were made in China and sold at discount, hardware, and home improvement stores across the United States from January 2008 through August 2009 for between $1 and $3, the CPSC said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled flame guards on Clear-Vu torch fuel containers and contact Lamplight to receive a free repair kit, the CPSC said.
