Quest Commercial Juice Dispensers Recalled Because of Fire Risk

About 14,000 Quest Commercial Juice Dispensers are included in a recall announced today because frayed wiring inside the machines may cause the electrical transformer to overheat, posing a fire hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

IMI Cornelius, the Osseo, Minn.-based manufacturer of the products, said it has received one report of a transformer smoldering and smoking. There have been no reports of injuries or property damage associated with the defective juice dispensing machines, officials said.

Select Serial Numbers Involved in Recall

The recalled commercial juice dispensers, which are like what you’d see in a restaurant or cafeteria, have two or four dispensing valves with a lighted front cover. Dispensers with the following serial numbers are included in this recall:

62E0416JT to 62E0441JT

The serial number is printed on the inside of the front door of the dispenser, the CPSC said.

The recalled Quest Commercial Juice Dispensers Commercial were sold to commercial customers across the United States from February 2001 through August 2006 for about $2,000 (2-flavor unit) or about $3,200 (4-flavor unit), the CPSC said. The machines were made in the United States.

Customers who have a recalled juice dispenser in their possession should unplug the unit, open the door, and inspect the wire harness in the bottom left corner of the cabinet. If the colored wiring is cut or cracked, customers should immediately stop using the unit and contact IMI Cornelius. To see photos of the machines and of the frayed wiring that may be present, see the CPSC recall notice.

IMI Cornelius is contacting all customers directly to provide a free repair kit for the defective machines, officials said.
