Girls’ Hooded Sweatshirts, Action Figures, and Sofa Beds Recalled Due to Injury Risks

Quiksilver girls’ hooded sweatshirts, IKEA sofa beds, and plastic action figures are among the products being recalled today, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

About 500 Roxy Girl cotton hooded sweatshirts made by Quicksilver, Inc. of Huntington Beach, Ca. are being recalled because the items have waist drawstrings that can pose a threat of entrapment and strangulation to children. No injuries have been reported from the sweatshirts.

The cotton hooded sweatshirts have a zipper in front and a drawstring around the waist. They come in gray with blue lining and cherry with lavender lining in girls’ sizes SML-XL, the CPSC said. “ROXY” is printed on the front of the gray sweatshirt and on the neck label on both colors. The style number, B487857, is printed on the inside care label near the waist, according to the CPSC recall announcement.

The recalled girls’ sweatshirts were sold at Quiksilver stores, Nordstrom, Macy’s, surf shops, and other retailers nationwide from April 2009 through August 2009 for approximately $40.

If you or your child has one of the recalled Quiksilver hooded sweatshirts, you are advised to immediately remove the drawstrings from the clothing to eliminate the strangulation and entrapment hazard. You may also return the item to the place of purchase or directly to Quiksilver for a full refund, the CPSC said.

IKEA Sofa Beds

Also recalled today are about 500 IKEA KARLSTAD sofa beds, which have flammable mattresses and seat cushions that violate federal safety standards for the products. IKEA Home Furnishings, of Conshohocken, Pa. said no injuries have been reported associated with the recalled sofa beds.

The IKEA KARLSTAD sofa-bed frame has article number 801-215-12, supplier number 20789, and date stamps 0845 through 0927 located on a label attached to the underside of the frame. The mattress topper is not affected by this recall, the CPSC said.

The recalled sofa-beds were made in Mexico and sold at IKEA stores nationwide from November 2008 through July 2009 for about $850.

Consumers should immediately stop using the mattress and cushions and contact IKEA to arrange free installation of a replacement mattress and seat cushions.

More than 8,000 Force Soldier Play sets, Pirate Expeditions with Parrot, and Pirate Expeditions with Treasure action figure toys are being recalled because they contain excessive levels of lead.

The toys, distributed by Liquidation Outlet, Inc., of Lakewood, Wash., have not been associated with any reports of injuries to children playing with them, according to the CPSC recall notice.

The Force Soldier play set were packaged in a plastic bag with SKU number 70134 printed on the header card. The soldiers in the bag are five inches tall and come with an airplane, machine guns, and a tropical tree.

The Pirate Expeditions play set comes in a blister packs in two styles with the SKU number 70136 printed on the header cards. Pirate Expedition figures are 6.5” in height and have assorted accessories including a parrot or a treasure chest.

The toys were made in China and sold at Dollar Stores in Washington and Oregon from September 2007 through July 2009 for $1, the CPSC said.

The recalled toys should be taken away from young children to avoid toxic exposure to lead. The toys can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange for another toy, the CPSC said.
