1.5 Million Durabrand DVD Players Recalled due to Fire, Burn Hazards
About 1.5 million Durabrand DVD players sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide have been recalled because they may overheat, posing a risk of fire and burns to consumers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
Wal-Mart has received 12 reports of the DVD players overheating, including five in which fires resulted and caused property damage, according to the CPSC recall notice. However, no reports of injuries to users of the recalled DVD players have been received, officials said.
The recalled products are single DVD players with a remote control that is silver in color with a U-shaped opening in the top of the player where the DVD is inserted. They were manufactured in China and sold only at Wal-Mart stores from January 2006 through July 2009 for about $29, the CPSC said.
Consumers who have the recalled Durabrand DVD players in their possession should immediately stop using the products and return them to the nearest Wal-Mart for a full refund.
