Sevylor Tow Behinds, LeapFrog Electronic Plush Toys Among New Product Recalls
Inflatable tubes that can be towed behind speedboats for fun on the water and LeapFrog stuffed animals that talk and light up are being recalled because the products have been linked to potentially serious injuries to consumers.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recalls today.
Sevylor Tow Behinds
About 94,000 Sevylor-brand tow behinds with quick hitch connectors made by Sevca, LLC of Wichita, Kansas have been recalled because the part that connects the rope to the boat can break, injuring people on the boat or being towed behind the craft.
The CPSC said it has received a report of a boater being struck by a piece of the quick hitch that broke while it was attacked to the tow rope. Only Sevylor two behinds with the quick hitch components are covered by today’s recall.
The products were manufactured in China and sold across the United States in department and retail stores from January 2005 through December 2009 for between $50 to $100, the CPSC said. A complete list of the Sevylor tow behind models being recalled can be found on the CPSC website.
Consumers are advised to stop using recalled two behinds and contact Sevca for instructions on how to remove the quick hitch component and use the product without the component. Consumers who return their quick hitch to the company will receive a 1-2 person tow rope, the CPSC said.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
LeapFrog My Pal Scout Plush Toy Togs
Nearly 3,700 My Pal Scout Electronic Plush Toy Dogs made by LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. are being recalled because decals on the paws of the toy can be removed and swallowed by children, presenting a risk of choking.
The company said it has received two reports of children removing the decals from the plush dog toys. In one of those cases, a child ingested part of the decal, the CPSC said.
The My Pal Scout is a green and beige electronic plush dog with plastic decals on its paws. The toy plays songs, speaks, and barks when those decals are pushed. The plush dog is about nine inches high and nine inches wide with “Scout” printed on the dog tag around the dog’s neck.
“LeapFrog Ent. Item No. 19142” is printed on the white tag attached to the dog and also on the toy’s packaging. My Pal Scout dogs that have embroidered paws rather than stickers on the paws are not included in the recall, the CPSC said.
The recalled LeapFrog plush toys were sold at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide and also on www.toysrus.com, www.leapfrog.com, and other retail Web sites from May 2009 through June 2009 for about $20.
Consumers who have the recalled My Pal Scout toys in their possession should immediately take the toys away from young children and contact LeapFrog to receive a replacement toy with embroidered paws rather than decals, the CPSC said.
