Libido-Boosting Products Recalled for Undeclared Ingredients

Libipower Plus products are being recalled because the libido-boosting pills contain the active ingredient in erectile dysfunction drugs, which are not declared on the packaging and can cause life-threatening complications in patients taking nitrates for heart conditions.

Haloteco, the maker of Libipower Plus products, is recalling the pills, which were sold in single-capsule blister packs through distributors and in retail stores across California.

The Food and Drug Administration said testing of Libipower Plus tablets found they contain tadalafil, the active ingredient in approved drugs for treating erectile dysfunction. The packaging does not declare tadalafil as an ingredient, which can pose a threat of injury to patients taking prescription nitroglycerin for heart conditions.

Tadalafil can interact with nitrates, lowering blood pressure to potentially fatal levels, the FDA said. People taking Libipower Plus may also experience side effects including headache and flushing.

Stamina-RX brand dietary supplements were recalled in June because they contained benzamidenafil, a drug that mimics the ingredients in some erectile dysfunction drugs, and did not declare the ingredient on the labeling. The undeclared drug can negatively interact with nitrates, causing the potential for severe health complications.

Consumers who have Libipower Plus products in their possession are advised to stop using the products immediately and discard them. Users who have experienced health problems while taking the products should contact their physician.
