Barbecue Grills Recalled Due to Fire, Burn Hazards

About 113,000 Blue Ember Gas Grills sold in the United States and Canada are being recalled because the units pose a risk of serious burns to users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said today.

There have been 161 reports of grill fires resulting in nine injuries, including two incidents in which users suffered extensive burns, six involving minor burns, and one case involving temporary hearing loss, officials said.

A hose connecting the grill to the gas tank may come too close to the firebox on the grill and become too hot, allowing it to catch fire and injure users. The recalled grills were made in China and imported by Fiesta Gas Grills of Dickson, Tenn.

Several models of Blue Ember liquid propane outdoor products are involved in today’s recall announcement. The recalled grills are cabinet-style models with two doors and are either silver and black or silver and gray in color. “Blue Ember” is printed on the grill’s hood and the model and serial numbers can be found printed on a plate on the back of the grill.

Model numbers FG50045, FG50057, and FG50069 are included in the recall. For a complete list of the serial numbers of recalled grills, click here.

The grills were sold at home-improvement centers and retailers across the U.S. and Canada from November 2006 through June 2008 for between $400 and $500 in the U.S. and from November 2006 through May 2009 for between $400 and $600 in Canada, the CPSC said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled grills and contact Fiesta Gas Grills to obtain a free replacement grease pan assembly and instructions for installing the part and the gas tank. The grills should not be used until the new grease pan assembly and the gas tank have been installed correctly. Consumers should also inspect the gas burner hose and regulator, which will be replaced free of charge if there are signs of damage, according to the CPSC.

Perfect Flame grill model SLG 2008A, erupted in flames. I had just finished grilling and in the process of burning off the minor residual on the grill. The box literally became a box of flame……..melting the hose connection between the barbacue and tank in half. I received second degree burns from having to reach in and shut down the tank. Looking for a NEW YORK attorney……who can handle product liability. Thanks in Advance. JKE
