Listeriosis is a form of food poisoning caused by exposure to L. monocytogenes and can result in serious, life-threatening infections in young children, frail, or older people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, the FDA warned.
There have so far been no illnesses reported from the Strubs salmon, officials said.
