Male Enhancement Product Libimax Recalled Due to Unapproved Ingredients, Low Blood Pressure Risks
Libimax, an herbal male libido enhancer billed as being able to “rev up your sex life,” is being recalled after the Food and Drug Administration found it contained unapproved ingredients that make the product an illegal drug.
Laboratory analysis found that samples of Libimax contain tadalafil, an active ingredient in FDA-approved erectile dysfunction drugs, officials said. Libimax is made by Nature & Health Co. of Brea, Ca.
The fact that Libimax contains tadalafil poses a threat of injury to consumers, since the drug may negatively interact with nitrates commonly found in prescription drugs for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease. This interaction can result in dangerously low blood pressure, the FDA said.
Since erectile dysfunction is a common side effect of those medical conditions, men may turn to Libimax in an attempt to correct the problem. Libimax’s labeling does not state that it contains tadalafil nor does it warn people taking nitrates of the risk of low blood pressure, the FDA said.
Libimax is sold in single capsule packs as well as 10- and 20-capsule plastic bottles in retail stores throughout California, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas, the FDA said.
So far, no consumer injuries have been reported associated with the use of Libimax containing tadalafil, the FDA said. Nature & Health said in a statement that it “sincerely regrets any inconvenience to customers.”
